In this video, I show the process I used to start creating the pie-crust table top. This type of table, so-named because the table top looks like the crimped edge of a pie crust, can be a challenge for many a woodworker, so naturally I wanted to see if I could tackle it. Careful calculations, an innovative way to overcome some basic tool deficiencies, and some basic carving skills are needed to get this far. But, it’s turning out okay, I think! (Okay, I’m actually really happy with the progress so far.) So while many a craftsman would break out a large lathe and spin this 30-inch disk, and then carve that fancy edge with chisels, I used a homemade jig and a router.
